I am currently coaching rugby union at a local South African primary school, Sonop, from January to June 2020.
To quote one of the world’s most famous South African presidents, Nelson Mandela, “Sport has the power to unite a nation”
For me sport, and in this case, rugby union, is also a tool that can be used to develop children mentally, physically and spiritually. It is so important to help children build their character, teach them values, discipline etc. by inspiring them and giving them hope. But most important to sow the seeds of God’s love and grace.
Coaching and teaching children life skills is however made more difficult by the lack of funds to buy the even basic equipment like balls, tackle bags, a scrum machine, jerseys etc. Any financial help from you will go a long way in keeping the hopes and dreams alive of these children!
